Day 29

Back Up Next

-         As we get there Chris’ shop gets shut down.

-         Two Ladies show up with a packing tape dispenser and tape a notice of non payment of business taxes onto his door.

-         Is it me or are they laughing? I am surprised that something like that isn’t done by mean looking tough guys…

-         Chris drives off in his mean looking monster truck and all he says is that it is a misunderstanding and that he’ll go downtown to straighten the thing out.

-         We sit in the bus looking at each other, we are so beyond reason right now that we such laugh our heads off….Steve’s mother calls right in the middle of all this and doesn’t know what to think. “Keep me posted! We are sitting at the edge of our chairs here…” she says.

-         In the meantime we sit and wait. We don’t know what to do. Does he have a clue or is he shut down for real? The kids are keeping busy by drawing and fighting with each other.

-         About 40 minutes later Chris is back. He walks in his shop, doesn’t come out, we don’t know what to do. Steve doesn’t want to bother him, it seems like a sensitive time…after a while Steve goes in and checks on the status of things, which is when I hear loud arguing.

-         Steve gets yelled at by Chris “Move things along? I am getting a little pissed now. You don’t get here until noon and then you don’t leave.”

-         I am expecting Steve to come back in tears. The kids and I, who have heard all of this through the open windows, look at each other and wonder. I am laughing nervously in disbelieve over the entire situation.

-         Finally Steve comes back and just wants to clear out as fast as he can, so we pack up the kids, the snacks, the stroller, the jackets, the hats, the sunscreen, the arm, and the leg and hop into Chris’ mean looking Suburban and speed off.

-         By now I have had enough of the guy, who behaves like that?

OK, I know funny.  This is funny.  29 days in a bus, maybe $120K spent, 3500 miles from home, and some officials post a note on Chris' shop door and close the place up!

Hahahaa.

This is getting good now!

I think "This is the end".

Chris says "It is only a misunderstanding, I will be back in an hour."

"Yep", I though.  I was starting to laugh out loud.

**** Well roll me in molasses and tie me to an ant hill, who comes back in an hour, opens the doors, takes off the notice, but Chris!  He was right.  A misunderstanding.  I was shocked!  ***

Maybe there was still hope for our plans!
