Day 44

Back Up Next

-         In the morning I manage to take a shower before Missy wakes up!

-         Julia peeks out the bedroom with sleepy eyes. I think she is not quite sure what to expect. She is probably afraid her birthday isn’t going to happen so far away from home, but of course she has nothing to fear…

-         As she comes out of her room in her underwear, hugs and kisses later, we all sing “Happy Birthday” for the first of many times today. I light the candles and we sing, again. With a big smile on her face she unwraps and unwraps. I can feel how happy she is that her birthday has found her, even out here on 65th Ave. in Seattle.

-         I make frosting with cream cheese, lemon juice, sugar and vanilla and we share birthday muffins with the shop-crew, even Jeff likes them, especially the frosting…

-         After we get out of the bus we go to REI, where we have seen a huge boulder for climbing. Unfortunately Julia is about 1 inch too short and the guy won’t budge. She is all upset and cries bitterly. Luckily they have a playground, which seems fun and assuages disappointed souls a little. And then, of course, we have to get into fights with a group of boys, throwing spit balls…

-         At the end of the day Julia and I, followed by Jonah, go out and light up the number five shaped sparkler I bought at the Mouse Toys store. We stand outside in the dark watching the five sparkle its way around to the end waving good bye to it.

-         I so hope my little Juju has had a nice birthday. I think she did.

Birthday on a bus.  Who would have thought?
Balloons and ribbons go a long way in making a birthday special.  Even in a 40' tin can!
