Day 3

-
Woke early again. The truck is still not finished. Leaks,
blown fuses, overheating generator. We have to borrow the
company’s van to get around. Steve is deadly tired at this
point, he mangles his words and puts on his puppy face.
-
The chillens are OK. Not great, but OK. The weather
forecast predicts it to be “just perfect” for the entire next
week, around 84 degrees.
-
Shopping at Camping World!!! Bought a coffee maker to fit
under the cabinets…the people are so nice here…everyone is soooo
helpful. I noticed that all the music CD’s they sell are by
country singers I’ve never heard of.
-
Back at the truck, the toilet is mostly fixed and the
generator stops overheating. Stevie tries to take a nap, and
fails.
-
At 5:30 PM we finally assume the truck is ours as we are
coasting toward Eugene on Rt. 99 South. We meet up with Uncle
Stu and Marcia. We meet them at a beautiful playground on the
banks of Willamette River at Skinner Butte Park. Extremely
creative playground with water play and house structures that
are inspired by the old gold rush era.
-
By now the chillens are beyond tired. Lilli is crabby and
“bored”. Julia is sweet as ever enjoying the mud. Jonah is
grouchy and as volatile as a firecracker. Every little thing
sets him off and he has become very attached to me. He loves the
sugary sand though and insists I play with him.
-
Steve and Stu sit and talk.
-
We go out to eat to a nice Brewery on the other side of
Willamette River. Marcia and end up walking the kids along the
path next to the river while the boys talk more.
-
It’s a nice place but too cold so we have to get jackets
from the truck and order hot chocolate in July.
-
Lilli has been talking about having Spaghetti and so
everyone orders a big bowl of plain Spaghetti. Well, who knew
that people put lemon on Spaghetti? Jonah and Julia refuse to
eat anything at all. By now it is midnight for our bodies and
the kids are fading fast. I can’t believe they have been this
good so far!
-
As we finally get back to the truck it’s a matter of
seconds for the kids to melt into their bed. It takes all of
them to let me put on their PJs.
-
We decide to drive to a nearby campground so we can spend
more time with Stu and Marcia on Sunday. We drive out into the
dark of the night and promptly get lost. It takes us 45 minutes
to get to the campground five miles away.
-
The campground itself looks like a junkyard, trailers and
cars and trash all around. I believe not everyone comes here
only temporarily. The things the camping guide doesn’t tell you…

We were so stressed and tired, we did not take any pictures the
first few days... |
